La Ballena Astral

Learn more about our story, mission, and values

Who We Are

La Ballena Astral is an interdisciplinary creative universe where science, music, visual art, and poetry flow together. Inspired by the whales that navigate vast ocean universes, it is a living reminder that creativity has no boundaries and that the natural world is full of profound wisdom waiting to be heard.

Through art, nature, music, writing, and immersive experiences, we invite curious souls to reconnect with wonder, explore their inner worlds, and bring more imagination and meaning into everyday life.

About Us

Marly Irby is the environmental scientist, visual artist, vocalist, and storyteller behind La Ballena Astral. With a Ph.D. and Master’s degree in Sustainable Bioproducts (Wood Science) and a Bachelor’s in Forest Engineering, her work bridges the gap between scientific truth and mystical wonder. She believes nature isn't just something we study—it is something we feel, protect, and cherish as an endless source of inspiration.

Our Mission

To help curious and creative souls reconnect with wonder through art, nature, storytelling, and meaningful creative experiences, inviting deeper reflection, authentic expression, and more everyday magic.

Our Vision

To become a lighthouse for curious and creative souls seeking to reconnect with wonder, imagination, and their authentic expression. We envision a global creative community where art, nature, storytelling, and meaningful experiences inspire people to explore their inner worlds, embrace their many passions, and live with greater curiosity, intention, and connection.

Our Values

Our values guide how we create, connect, and bring the spirit of La Ballena Astral to life.

Wonder

We believe wonder is a way of seeing the world. We remain curious about the ocean, the cosmos, nature, creativity, and the quiet magic hidden in everyday life.

Creativity

Creativity belongs to everyone. We encourage people to explore, experiment, and create freely without allowing perfection or self-judgment to silence their imagination.

Authentic Expression

We value honest, meaningful expression. Through art, writing, music, and storytelling, we create space for people to embrace their voices, experiences, and many passions.

Self-Discovery

Every creative journey is also an inner voyage. We use reflection, journaling, art, and intentional practices to help people understand themselves and explore what gives their lives meaning.

Connection

We believe creativity can bring people closer—to themselves, to nature, and to one another. We seek to build a thoughtful and welcoming community where people feel inspired, understood, and less alone.

Reverence for Nature

Nature is both our inspiration and our teacher. We celebrate the ocean, forests, wildlife, and cosmos while encouraging a deeper appreciation for the living world and our responsibility to care for it.

Meet the Artist

I’m Marly, a bilingual Venezuelan multidisciplinary artist, educator and founder of La Ballena Astral. My creative practice lives at the intersection of art, nature, science, storytelling, and reflection. I work across poetry, journaling, photography, collage, illustration, creative writing, digital art, and music, continually exploring how different disciplines can enrich one another.

Alongside my artistic practice, I hold a bachelor’s degree in Forest Engineering and both a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Sustainable Bioproducts, with a concentration in Wood Science and Technology. This academic and professional background allows me to bring curiosity, structure, research, and a deep understanding of the natural world into the creative process.

I also completed a year-long diploma in Reflection and Poetic Creation through La Poeteca in Caracas. My musical formation includes more than a decade of choral singing, national and international performances, and award-winning vocal competitions. As someone who has built a creative life across multiple disciplines, languages, cultures, and professional worlds, I understand the challenge of having many interests and wondering how they fit together. My role is to help you recognize the connections within your own creative life, clarify your ideas, and develop an authentic path for bringing them into the world.

Alongside my artistic and academic background, I bring professional experience in sales, marketing, communications, branding, outreach, and product development. I use this experience to help artists and creative entrepreneurs connect their vision with practical strategies for presenting, developing, and sharing their work.
